F1 News: Aston Martin To Reveal "Semi-New Car" for the Spanish GP

Aston Martin sits 9th in the F1 standings after a generally disappointing start to the 2022 season.

Miami and Imola were encouraging rounds for Aston, though, with the team securing consecutive points finishes in the fourth and fifth rounds of the season.

Their race pace in Miami was particularly impressive, given Vettel and Stroll were forced to start from the pit lane due to a pre-race fuel issue. In an effort to continue their recent upturn in form, Aston Martin will bring a significant upgrade package to the Spanish GP, which will reportedly turn the AMR22 into a “semi-new car”.

Aston Martin will not be the only team to bring improvements to Catalunya, but few teams have had the same level of speculation about their Spanish GP update package.

Whispers emerged after an underwhelming first race in Bahrain that Aston Martin was preparing radical changes to rectify their early difficulties.

Whilst these reports were somewhat exaggerated; it seems they carried some level of truth, as the AMR22 will be subject to big changes in the upcoming rounds.

Aston Martin’s team principal, Mike Krack, has outlined the team’s aim to bring upgrades at every race for the rest of the season to recover from a somewhat underwhelming start.

German outlet Auto Motor Und Sport report that Aston Martin’s upgrades will lead to visible differences, with changes to the sidepods among the anticipated improvements.

There is some concern about whether both cars will receive these updates, as shortages may force the team to bring their upgrade package to just one of their cars in Spain.

It would not be the first time a team only has parts available for one driver, so this is far from catastrophic news.

Despite this, Aston Martin will be working to ensure they can give both drivers the best chance to continue the team’s point-scoring streak, as the F1 grid prepares itself for back-to-back races.
